| The website where you will find early printed and antique books, science, voyages, atlases and a wide variety of old and antique maps.
Frederik Muller Rare Books exists since 1998, starting with maps and prints only and gradually moving into the field of antique books. The present selection covers most areas of the world with emphasis on Africa, Asia and the Americas. In the past ten years a wall map of the world by Willem Blaeu and von Humboldt's manuscript map of Mexico and the southwest USA have been sold. The main interest in books and maps lies in the voyages of discovery and the early reports from sailors, missionaries, soldiers and tradesmen, on what they found in those distant and distinctive worlds of Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Furthermore, Frederik Muller became acquainted with the art of paper makers, early printers, colourists and bookbinders through the group of restorers that has been working together since the beginning. This group, The Frisian Restorers, has now found its own premises and has been accepting work from third parties since 2007.
At present the exposition room shows a very rare edition of the Don Quijote from 1610, printed in Italy. You will find all the information about that beautiful book there.
The rarest of the books will be the Maximilianus Transsylvanus: de Moluccis Insulis (Cologne, January 1523), the first report of Magellaens circumnavigation of the world.
In 2010 we will participate in the Miami Map Fair (30-31 January), the New York Antiquarian Book Fair in the Armory (5-9 April) and the London Antiquarian Book Fair in the Olympia in the first weekend of June. In the second half of the year in the Boston Antiquarian Bookfair and the Madrid Feria del Libro Antiguo. Specific dates will be communicated later. We look forward to meeting you there.
