In folio ; contemporary full calf over wooden boards, lacks clasps; 1 nn leaf; 2 folios; 519 folios ; Cyrillic (Tsjerkowni) text. Printed in red & black throughout - Introduction; full page engraving (King David by Semjon Nasarow, 1763); text & commentaries Psalms. Except for restauration of the spine and some light waterstaining to about 20 leaves in excellent condition.
The earliest Russian bibles were printed in White Russian, in Sclavonic characters (Tserkowni), which is the earlier form of the Cyrillic character. Only after the foundation of the Russian Bible Society (1814), standard Russian became the language used, and all editions afterwards were printed in the Russian character (Grajdanski) which is the modern form of Cyrillic character, introduced by Peter the Great. |
