The magnificent binding represents the Arc of Convenant, implemented by the Double Drawer Bindery in Amsterdam, 1700 (Storm van Leeuwen, Book I, pp 243; 244, plate 39). Plates by Jan Luyken, Jan Goeree and Bernard Picard. Worldmap by Luchtenburg (Shirley 622) as are two other maps. A marvelous copy of the print bible by Mortier, in magnificent binding and in modern, very beautiful colouring in the style of Dirk van Santen.

Portada en negro y rojo con un pequeno grabado dulce.Segunda hoja con escudo de Luis Fernando de Borbon.Retrato a plena pagina de Obispo. Segunda portada, arondeado por olas. Tapas gastadas, primera portada un poco corto, tocando la primera palabra. Texto en muy buen estado de conservacion.
De la literatura tengo la impresion que Francisco Plaza era el primer impresor de Oviedo y por ende de Asturias. Imprimio su primer libro en 1681 (Escritura, acuerdo, condiciones etc), su segundo en 1718 (Segunda carta pastoral de…Francisco Joseph, Obispo de San Sebastian) y su tercer, este, en 1719. El Patrocinio, este historia de Asturias, sera entonces el tercer libro impreso en Asturias. Libro importante e impreso tempraneo de Oviedo (Asturias). El primer libro cuenta la historia de Asturias de los siglos VIII al XI enfatisando la deudea del pueblo de Espana a la virgin. La segunda parte describe la vida del Obispo (de Oviedo) Tomas Reluz, hasta e incluyendo una relacion de las fiestas religiosas en esta ciudad.

Garcilazo de la Vega Commentarios Reales...cronologico de la Florida

Famosa cronica sobre el Peru (dos partes) y la Florida (EEUU, una parte, la otra escrita por Cardenas aca en primera edicion) vista como una sola, pero raro de encontrar completo. Los comentarios reales, tratan de la vida pre Incaica en el Peru, la historia general del periodo a partir de la entrada de Pizarro. La Florida del Inca recuenta la conquista de la Florida por Hernan de Soto y el Ensayo es obra de Gabriel Cardenas que recuenta la historia de la Florida entre 1512 y 1722, o sea en XXI decadas.Palau dice de este obra: el autor es el primer escritor americano de raza indigena... La segunda edicion de este obra es tan apreciada como la primera y mas util. Streiter dice del Ensayo cronologico que compone lo mejor historia de la competicion entre los Espanoles y los Franceses por el control de la Florida. El Inca Garcilazo de la Vega es tanto cronista como escritor. Como hijo de una princesa Incaica y un Capitan Espanol, nacido en el Peru, se mueve a Espana y se realiza como escritor de un muy buen proza tardia renacentista.

Barrow, Isaac The usefulness of mathematical learning...University of Cambridge
London, Austen 1734. In octavo, full calf, spine blindstamped, gilt & renewed. Portrait; 32 pp; 440 pp; 10 nn leaves, including one blank and one full page illustration. This is the first edition of the oratorical preface of our learned author spoken before the university on his being elected Lucasian professor of mathematics, followed by a series of 15 mathematical lectures. There is a modern facsimile edition of this book (Routledge, 1970).
Isaac Barrow was first a professor of Greek and later a professor mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, at the same time Newton taught there. His contribution to mathematics is especially in the area of the mathematical calculus. Newton and Barrow worked together on mathematical investigations and Barrow presented one of Newton’s papers: On analysis of infinite series, anonymously to other scientists of the day, admitting later the paper was written by Newton:...”a fellow of our college and very young but of an extraordinary genius and proficiency in these things” (Barrow to Collins, quoted in Glieck, Isaac Newton, Harper 2003). Newton eventually succeeded Barrow as mathematical professor, who after that concentrated on his religious concerns.

Carsten Niebuhr (1733-1815) led a Danish expedition into Arabia & Yemen. The expedition took Niebuhr to Yemen (1761-1763), from Yemen to India, Bombay (1763-64) and from India into Mesopotamie and Persia (1764-67). His report gave Europe the first comprehensive description of the region from a XVIII century, rational viewpoint . He was also the first European to report on the spread of the Wahhabi revolution, an Islamic fundamentalist movement that had tremendous influence on the history of Arabia (Waldman, 1992). His map of Yemen is the first scientifically based map of that country.

First French edition. Forrest explored the Chinese Ocean on behalf of the British East India Company in a native prahu (called the Tartar). Forrest contributed especially to the knowledge of New Guinee and Mindanao. For both areas he produced a vocabulary which is included.
