Companion sheet to Homann's maps of Africa and America.
This large map of Asia belongs to the same Homann series as the continental maps of Africa and America. The map shows Asia from the Mediterranean region to Japan, with parts of Australia, New Guinea and surrounding islands.
Of interest are the early-eighteenth-century uncertainties in the geography of Japan, north-eastern Asia and Australia. The large cartouche at lower left strengthens the decorative effect.
It is a commercially attractive sheet within a strong decorative series.
Notable features: Early Australian geography; Large format and strong colour fields; Provenance: Deutsche Shipping Collection, Hamburg.
A companion sheet to Homann's Africa and America, notable for its early-eighteenth-century depiction of Japan, north-east Asia and Australia.
